The District Attorney for Manhattan Alvin Bragg responded to a letter from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio, and others, to provide testimony, documentation, and communications from his office relative to the grand jury investigation into allegations made against former President Donald Trump.
In denying their request to appear, a letter from Bragg’s office said the House request is an “unprecedented inquiry into a pending local prosecution.” The letter listed four ways in which the request for testimony was not a “legitimate basis for congressional inquiry.”
The letter did, however, say they would be willing to “meet and confer to understand whether the Committee has any legitimate legislative purpose in the requested materials that could be accommodated without impeding [New York’s sovereign police power].”
